Christmas is love to share

Christmas is around the corner and I have to admit this year I am feeling a little bit nostalgic.

My Parents and nan made sure that my sisters, brothers, every child and adult in the neighbourhood and me always had the best Christmas ever every year. My oldest brother is 64 and he is still meeting people on the street who stop him to say: “Do you remember me? I use to go to your house every December for the most beautiful time of my life”.

The celebration of Christmas always started on the 16th of December and went on through every night until Christmas day. We use to get together, doors open to everyone who wanted to join us. We prayed around the nativity, then we sang carols, we sent Chinese lanterns to the sky, we had fireworks, we danced and drank and ate but the most important thing, we shared as a family. We shared with everyone who wants to share and we celebrated deeply the birth of peace and love in this world.

I was blessed with a beautiful family, I was blessed with the most beautiful Christmas you could imagine during all of my childhood and teenage years.

So many winters and summers have passed and now my dad and nan are gone and the tragedy of the death of my dad could not be understood and accepted by my mum so she chose to disconnect from this world forgetting who she is and who are the people who love her.

This year I feel sadness remembering what it was and realising it will never be again. But then I stopped my feelings of pity for myself and took the decision to enjoy this Christmas. I choose to believe this is the time for happiness, this is the time for peace, this is the time for forgiveness, this is the time for sharing. I choose to celebrate Christmas with love and I invite you to do the same. It does not matter what has been your experience up to now for Christmas, it does not matter if you are missing some one this year, it does not matter if you are alone or with a lot people around, it does not matter if there are presents or not. Christmas is the light born into your life, Christmas is the promise made reality, Christmas is love.

I am opening my heart to celebrate Christmas. I will put my nostalgia in a box and enjoy the present moment. I invite you to open your heart to the peace, love and happiness that Christmas can bring into your life.

May God bless you and all your family, may God bring the real spirit of Christmas into your life.

Finally, allow me to raise my glass in gratitude to my parents and Nan for giving me so many happy Christmas' but most important of all, for teaching me that Christmas is love to share and that lesson will be always with me.
